Smiles and laughter filled the classroom on the day of the Felicitation Ceremony at the Education Centre by the Rohingya Human Rights Initiative. The event was graced by the presence of Vinay Kumar, Sub Inspector of the Police Station in Khajuri Khas; Sharad Sharma, a renowned cartoonist from World Comics India among many others.
Sabber, the founder of Rohingya Human Rights Initiative and Country Co-Ordinator of Free Rohingya Coalition expressed his gratitude towards the government of India. He stated that without the government of India, they would not be alive today. He is thankful to the various students, activists and everyone who supported the Rohingyas who are temporarily residing in India.
Sabber also expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards Rhea Mahanta, the founder of The Peacebuilding Project without which The Education Project would not be where it is today.
He also mentioned that there is still a long way to go and this is just the beginning. The children shared their dreams of their future. Some of them wanted to be layers, doctors, etc. He urged various NGOs, individuals to continue their support towards the Rohingyas in India.
Amina Maryam, was one of the volunteers who shared her valuable time and energy in teaching the children at the Education Centre. She expressed that it was her first teaching experience and was a little nervous at the beginning but the visibility of the willingness and desire to learn which she saw in the students motivated her to teach. She mentioned that she still wonders how the four months flew by with the students. “These are hard-working students with a very bright future and the Education program should be continued”, she added.
Noor Salima, a student at the Education Centre gave a brief description of what she learnt at the Education Centre. Those included- nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verb, sentence formation; thereby building their foundation in the English language. Foziya, another student expressed that they were also taught Computer skills, Hindi and Burmese language. They expressed their desire to learn more.
The successful completion of the four months of the Education Centre would not have been possible without the consistent efforts and had work of Kabir, the Education Supervisor; Ali Johar, the Education Co-Ordinator, who has believed and supported this program with all his heart; The Peacebuilding Project and other organizations and individuals who have been helping the program with their help and support.
In addition, we urge everyone reading this to continue to shower their love and support so that the Education Program continues to teach these children and help them build a strong foundation for their future.
